Placement Examinations

Placement tests are required for the following courses:

Mathematics: MATH 108, 117, 118 and 125

Chemistry: CHEM 050, 102 and 105a

Foreign Language: For placement in the first three semesters or to meet the requirement in Arabic, Classical Greek, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Latin, Persian, Russian and Spanish.

For languages not taught at USC, check the Language Center website for testing options.

Placement Test Dates, Times and Locations

Placement tests for mathematics and chemistry require a reservation scheduled at least one week prior to the exam date. Contact Placement Testing for test details at placement@usc.edu, (213) 740-1188 or visit the Placement Testing website for more information.

Foreign language placement tests are administered by the Language Center on scheduled dates throughout the academic year and during the summer. Results are valid for one calendar year. Students must wait six months before retaking. For additional information concerning foreign language tests, contact the USC Language Center, THH 309, (213) 740-1188 or language@usc.edu, or visit the website at language.usc.edu.

Only students admitted to USC may take these exams. USC ID or proof of admittance to USC along with a photo ID is required.
