Directed Research in Biomedical Science

Section 41416

  • Note: The CHLA Track provides students with the chance to engage in research in one of the leading pediatric hospitals in the country. This option is designed to provide both an introduction to the fundamentals of clinical research and direct exposure to clinical medicine and clinical research projects in the CHLA Emergency Medicine Department. Starting Fall 2018, MEDS-490 CHLA will offer a second section: Community Health Advocates Team (CHAT). A maximum of 12 students will be given the opportunity to participate in this new section, where they will learn to operate the navigation desk in the emergency department, allowing them to understand social determinants of health while also providing them an opportunity for clinical experience. Currently all spaces in both the CHLA Research and CHAT sections have been assigned but students may request to be placed on the wait list.
CHLA TRACK: Students who can take 4 units of MEDS-490 CHLA will be given priority to register. Please contact Eli Chau at mhcs@usc.edu for D-Clearance. Currently all spaces in BOTH sections of MEDS-490 CHLA have been assigned. Students may still inquire to be placed on the wait list. Contact mhcs@usc.edu for the CHLA Research section and cohensa@usc.edu for the CHAT section.
