Don’t miss our extremely popular “Night at the Opera” event on Friday, April 26th, 2013, which we plan in conjunction with the USC Thornton School of Music’s annual spring opera production. This year the Thornton Opera program and the Thornton Symphony present Francis Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites.  Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m. and the performance begins at 8:00 p.m.at Bing Theatre. The evening features a champagne cocktail reception, prix fixe dinner, and a lecture about the production from a Thornton opera faculty member.

More information about the opera:

What is it like to be afraid of everything? To even be afraid of being afraid?  Follow Blanche de la Force as she attempts to escape the impending Nazi terror infiltrating France by hiding in a convent. When the Nazis invade, however, will Blanche and the Sisters of the Convent of Compiegne renounce their religion in order to survive, or will they make the ultimate sacrifice by remaining true to their beliefs? Based on a true story, this riveting opera, written immediately after WWII by Francis Poulenc, may cause you to question your beliefs and how far you are willing to go to defend them.
