A documentary explores the crossroads where Islam and homosexuality meet.

The screening of A Jihad for Love is proudly sponsored by the LGBT Resource Center and Asian Pacific American Student Services, in partnership with the Office of Religious Life, Southern California Indo Americans, the GLBT Student Assembly and Asian Pacific American Student Assembly.

Muslim gay filmmaker Parvez Sharma filmed A Jihad for Love in 12 countries and nine languages. The documentary explores the complex global intersections between Islam and homosexuality, and enters the many worlds of Islam by illuminating multiple stories as diverse as Islam itself. Through this documentary, Sharma reclaims the Islamic concept of a greater Jihad, whose true meaning is akin to “an inner struggle” or “to strive in the path of God.” The documentary subjects are willing to take the risk in their quest to lay equal claim to their profoundly held faith.

Following the screening, there will be an informal discussion facilitated by campus colleagues.

Snacks will be provided.
