Fertig, clinical professor at the School of Social Work, has a wealth of experience at both the local and national levels. Professor Fertig was dubbed "the conscience of Washington" by The Washington Post. Over the course of his career, he has worked for social justice by serving as a federal administrative judge, a civil rights lawyer, a social worker, a sociologist, a professor and the head of various human rights organizations. He has received numerous awards for his service to the fight for human rights and excellence in his professions. He is also the author of the best-selling historical novel Of Love and Liberation: When the Jews Tore Down the Ghetto Walls.
