Aubrey Baardsgaard offers a fascinating inside look at sacrificial practices at Ur, through CT scans and more...

Aubrey Baadsgaard earned her Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania, specializing in the archaeology of the Bronze and Iron Ages of the Near East. She has worked extensively in the American Southwest and the Near East, and spent this past summer excavating Iron Age sites in Jordan.

Baadsgaard's research interests include the archaeology of the domestic sphere, the construction of self-identity through body ornamentation, and issues of the building and protection of cultural heritage sites in the modern Near East. Her dissertation will examine adornment in Ancient Mesopotamia, using information from written sources and jewelry and cosmetic containers from museum collections.

Pizza and sodas will be served.
