Imam Jihad Turk, religious director of USC's Muslim Student Union, is the first speaker in a series for those interested in clerical life and faith-based service.

Have you ever thought about becoming a clergyperson, working in the academic study of religion, or volunteering for a faith-based organization? Then you may be interested in a new talk/discussion series that features religious leaders from different faith backgrounds.

Imam Jihad Turk, religious director of the Muslim Student Union at USC, and director of Religious Affairs at the Islamic Center of Southern California, comes to USC for the first talk in this new series. Turk, born to a Muslim Palestinian father and a Christian American mother, has dedicated himself to improving the relations between the Muslim community and other faith traditions in Southern California. Jihad serves as president of the Wilshire Center Interfaith Council, vice president of the Interreligious Council of Southern California, and co-chair of the Christian-Muslim Consultative Group. He sits on the boards of the Salaam Shalom Educational Foundation, which is developing a model for education that nurtures understanding and peaceful coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians, and Abraham's Vision, whose focus is on improving the relations between Muslims and Jews across the U.S. He is currently completing his Ph.D. in Islamic studies at UCLA.

The talk will be followed by tea, snacks and conversation.
