A very special event highlighting the faculty, activities and culture of the Strings Department at the USC Thornton School.

This two-day symposium features live performances, lessons and observations, direct interaction with faculty and current students, and a chance to experience a day in the life of a Strings major at USC.

Opening Concert
Newman Recital Hall

  • Saint-Saëns: Fantaisie Op. 124 (Petteri Iivonen, violin; Alison Balbag, harp)
  • Kodaly: Duo (Peter Stumpf, cello; Korbinian Altenberger, violin)
  • Clayton: Los Angeles Bass Trio, 1993 (Nico Abondolo, David Moore, Dennis Trembly, double basses)
  • Mozart: String Quartet K458 No.17 in B-flat “Hunt” (Helen Kim, Midori Goto, violins; John Stulz, viola; Mingwei Zhao, cello)

With remarks by:

  • Dr. Robert Cutietta, dean of Thornton School of Music
  • Midori Goto, Strings Department Chair and Jascha Heifetz Chair in Violin

Meet and mingle with members of the renowned Thornton Strings faculty and current students.

Music Practice and Instructional Center

Drop in for an impromptu “jam session” and perform alongside violin, viola, and cello students and faculty.
