Free to USC students, staff and faculty.

Learn to upload and download data files from desktop to Unix servers, and a host of other useful skills.

Participants will learn:

  • The basics of Unix operations, i.e., how to upload and download files from desktop to Unix servers, how to create a directory, how to list directory contents, how to delete and rename data sets
  • How to modify the LIBNAME, FILENAME and ODS statements from Windows programs to run on Unix (no other SAS statements require modification in moving from Windows to Unix)
  • How to run a basic program that outputs results to both a user's directory and a public Web site
  • How to create a portable batch system file and run a SAS program on the High Performance Computing Cluster using the qsub command and accessing a project directory

Some familiarity with SAS programming — such as an "Introduction to SAS" class — is assumed. Participants should understand a DATA statement and a LIBNAME statement.
