The lecture series welcomes psychology professor Frank Manis, whose expertise includes second-language literacy.

"What Matters to Me and Why" is a monthly talk and discussion series featuring USC faculty and administrators. The program is held on the first Wednesday of the month in Ground Zero Coffee House. It encourages reflection about values, beliefs and motivation in the lives of those who help shape our university.

Frank Manis is a professor of psychology who has been involved in research and teaching at USC since 1981. His studies focus on the cognitive, psycholinguistic and neurobiological bases of reading, learning disabilities, and the development of literacy in a second language. He currently holds an appointment as a Faculty Fellow at the USC Center for Excellence in Teaching. Manis has received a USC Innovative Teaching Award for the development of his Virtual Child Program.
