Life of an Honest Witness: Colleagues and Friends Remember Anthony Shadid Wednesday 04/18/2012: 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM University Park Campus Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism (ASC) 207 USC Center for Religion and Civic Culture, Levantine Cultural Center, Los Angeles, USC Center for International Studies, USC Knight Chair in Media and Religion, USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences Join a distinguished panel in recalling the broad, humane reach of the extraordinary journalist Anthony Shadid. When The New York Times correspondent Anthony Shadid died in February along the Turkish-Syrian border, the world lost more than a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter. It lost the soul and conscience of international journalism, and a man widely considered the greatest correspondent of his generation. Schedule 5:30 p.m. Reception Annenberg School, West Lobby 6:30 p.m. Panel discussion Annenberg School, Room 207 Panelists will include: Lorraine Ali, calendar editor, Los Angeles Times Susan Chira, assistant managing editor, news, The New York Times (via Skype) Steve Fainaru, Shadid’s former colleague with The Washington Post John Freeman, editor, Granta Robert Shepard, Shadid’s literary agent Each of the panelists will also read a short excerpt from House of Stone, Shadid’s just-published memoir, which will be on sale at the reception and after the program.
