“Beautiful, sometimes surreal and ungraspable.”—The New York Times

The tragic tale of a love triangle between three magical puppets—the clown Petrushka, an alluring ballerina and the dashing Moor—was first performed as a ballet almost 100 years ago, starring famed dancer Vaslav Nijinsky. This modern version stars actual puppets, controlled by third generation puppeteer Basil Twist and accompanied by Igor Stravinsky’s score for two pianos (played by identical Russian twins). With weighty themes of unrequited love, power, control and manipulation, Twist’s enthralling Petrushka turns the idea of a puppet show on its head.
