I love going to Santa Monica Pier for beach daytrips with friends! You can spend a few hours at the coastline in the sand, explore the shops on the pier (the Playland arcade is pretty good too) and then still go shopping at the 3rd Street Shopping Mall. It has a great selection of shops from college friendly prices to major brands. You can spend hours at Santa Monica and it’s only a short drive away!

If you really want to go have a night on the town, catch the Metro bus to the Hollywood Bowl. It has an amazing selection of music throughout the year!

Going to the Staples Center is a must! Whether is going for a sports game or concert, it can’t be beat.

For truly luxurious movie-viewing, The Arclight at Sunset and Vine is the place. Reserved seating, wide aisles, no ads, and special 21 and over screenings. But beware, ticket prices run $10-14. Save up your nickles and treat yourself.

LACMA offers discounted student membership. I find it’s a great place to experience art from all around the world, or just spend time walking around Hancock Park/La Brea tarpits.

One tarpit is in the process of being excavated and can be viewed (through September, I think).

DKA, by Program Board, is a great way to watch movies for really cheap without having to leave campus — especially useful if you don’t have a car.

MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) is a nice cheap deal to check out some really different art. I like it a lot.

The Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena has a beautiful collection of Degas, Monet, Renoir, Goya, Picasso, VanGogh, and many more. If you bring your student I.D., you get in FREE. Parking is also FREE. If you don’t have a car, you should be able to take the Metro into Pasadena and then hop on a bus to the museum.
