Adobe Acrobat PDF Security Advisory (February 11)

Please be advised that there is a Trojan horse infection being spread over the Internet through banner ads and in PDF documents. In order to protect your computer, you are strongly advised to update to Adobe Acrobat Reader version 8.1.2.

The malware is designed to tamper with antivirus programs, as well as Web search results and banner displays.

To protect yourself from this vulnerability, download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader from the Adobe website at http://www.adobe.com/downloads/.

ITS encourages users to keep all their software up to date, especially security software. ITS provides free security software to USC account holders on the ITS website.

Download and open documents only from trustworthy sources. Software updates were recently released for Adobe Acrobat, Firefox, and QuickTime.

Windows users should be advised that on Tuesday, February 12, 2008, Microsoft will release a series of security updates, including 7 that are labeled critical and 5 that are labeled important.
